  • Stramski Laboratory for Ocean Optics Research
Ocean optics research at this laboratory is focused on the development of an understanding of interactions of light with sea water, variability in ocean optical properties, and propagation of light within the ocean. This includes studies of light absorption and scattering by marine particles, field measurements of ocean optical properties and light field characteristics, modeling efforts in the areas of particle optics and radiative transfer in the ocean, as well as applications of optics to satellite remote sensing of the world oceans, dynamics of ocean carbon reservoirs, and monitoring of coastal marine environments.
