Subject: Cs-137 source for Pisias' core logger
Cc: jgieskes@ucsd.edu

Hello all,

I spoke with Nick Pisias today. I wanted to let him know that he was
beginning to run short on time in getting me his Cs-137 source. Per the
pre-cruise meeting I was going to load his Cs-137 source on the Melville by
2/17 so the source could transit to Manzanillo.

Once Nick thought about his upcoming science commitments, he realized that
he had double-booked his Cs-137 source. He wants to use the core logger,
with Cs-137 source on the Thompson, while the same source is supposed to be
transiting to Manzanillo on the Melville.

After we spoke for a bit, he decided that:
1) he will try to borrow a similar Cs-137 source from UW to use in his core
logger during the Thompson cruise; and
2) he will try to get his Cs-137 source to me in time. (He still has time
to have his Cs-137 source delivered to me, but he can't dilly-dally.)

If he cannot borrow the Cs-137 source from UW, I don't know what he will
do. He and the OSU Radiation Safety Officer may have to try to have the
source shipped to Manzanillo. I'll keep you posted as I learn of
additional updates.

Best regards,

Sandy

We take care of that at MARFAC. As the schedule solidifies we will determine when it needs to be relocated. As you are aware we need it in it's normal location for CTD work but if there is none scheduled in legs prior to yours we can move it before the ship leaves San Diego. I have noted your requirement, but please remind us at the pre-sail.   Tom Althouse     ***************************   At 10:27 AM 7/7/99 -0800, you wrote: >I have forwarded your request to Capt.
