STS was unable to conduct the roll pitch bias test on the 7-8 test cruise. Therefore, S. Webb has been contacted and will allow time on his cruise for the roll pitch bias testing, even though he doesn't require Seabeam he likes to be able to see where his instrument will be placed. Details will follow on testing plan. Date: Fri, 9 Jul 1999 15:54:49 -0700 (PDT) From: Spahr Webb <scw@mpl.ucsd.edu> To: shipsked@ucsd.edu Subject: Re: ships/knorr.00 Cc: evans@hades.whoi.edu I have a cruise (with Rob Evans of WHOI) that is currently scheduled for the Melville from Feb 25 to Mar 19, 2000 (OCE98-19779). I just realized after looking at the Atlantis schedule that I will have a conflict with a long series of dives scheduled from the Atlantis at exactly the same spot that I am working (9-50'N). The schedule I have for the Atlantis shows a dead period of about a month in late January. Would it be possible for me to move my cruise to the Atlantis? That would solve the problem of trying to work at the same place as the Alvin. We requested 15 days of science at 9-50N EPR. The cruise would presumably be Manzanillo to Manzanillo. We would be deploying and recovering a bunch of OBS like devices and also will need the 0.680 electrically conducting wire.I assume the Atlantis will be carrying 0.680 wire? If this isn't going to work, perhaps you could call me to discuss what the limitations are on when the various Alvin legs are occuring and perhaps we can fit the Melville schedule into the Atlantis schedule to avoid this conflict. I know Dan Fonari also has some problems with the current schedule for both ships. Please give me a call in the morning. Spahr Webb 858-534-1844
Webb's cruise is linked with the Batiza cruise. Webb would like to recovery OBH's about 30-45 days later on Batiza's early Spring cruise.
