Subject: 2nd week's Chief-Sci report

R/V Melville, Weekly Scientific Report, 10/3/00, Cook 02.  XBT (every
30 minutes of time) section from off Arica, Chile to 85.0W, 20.0N
completed.  Bottom surveyed to locate mooring site, and surface
mooring deployed.  Intercomparisons between shipboard and buoy IMET
systems completed. Mooring on station and performing well.   CTD
station made at mooring site to begin XBT/CTD section back along 20.0S
toward Arica across part of Peru Basin and across the northern end of
the Chile Basin.  Deep CTD stations every degree of longitude, with
water collected for nutrients and chemistry, to be taken until just
of Chile.
